چکیده

In data processing, the fundamental idea behind wavelets is to analyze according to scale, with the advantage over Fourier methods in that of optimally processing signals that contain discontinuities and sharp spikes. Apart from the two major characteristics of the wavelet analysis multiresolution and adaptivity to nonstationarity or local features in data there is a related application in functional neuroimaging on the basis of the fractal or scale invariant properties demonstrated by the brain imaging data. Wavelets provide an orthonormal basis for multiscale analysis and decorrelation of nonstionary time series and spatial processes. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) has applications to statistical analysis in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) like time series resampling by wavestrapping, linear model estimation, and methods for multiple hypothesis testing in the wavelet domain. Key–Words: Wavelets analysis, multiresolution analysis, fractals, functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Wavelet-Based Statistical Analysis in Functional Neuroimaging

Wavelet-based analysis versus Gaussian smoothing in statistical parametric mapping (SPM) for detecting and analyzing brain activity from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data is presented. Detection of activation in fMRI data can be performed in the wavelet domain by a coefficient-wise statistical t-test. The link between the wavelet analysis and SPM is based on two observations: (i...

Functional Near Infrared Spectroscope for Cognition Brain Tasks by Wavelets Analysis and Neural Networks

Brain Computer Interface (BCI) has been recently increased in research. Functional Near Infrared Spectroscope (fNIRs) is one the latest technologies which utilize light in the near-infrared range to determine brain activities. Because near infrared technology allows design of safe, portable, wearable, non-invasive and wireless qualities monitoring systems, fNIRs monitoring of brain hemodynamics...

Fault Strike Detection Using Satellite Gravity Data Decomposition by Discrete Wavelets: A Case Study from Iran

Estimating the gravity anomaly causative bodies boundary can facilitate the gravity field interpretation. In this paper, 2D discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is employed as a method to delineate the boundary of the gravity anomaly sources. Hence, the GRACE’ satellite gravity data is decomposed using DWT. DWT decomposites a single approximation coefficients into four distinct components: the appr...

Wavelet Transform Compression of Functional Magnetic Resonance Image Sequences

Image sequences from functional neuroimaging experiments with 3-D magnetic resonance scans of the human brain were wavelet transformed using a variety of orthogonal and biorthogonal wavelet filters with different treatments of the image borders. Contrary to the expectation that higher-order wavelets with more sophisticated boundary treatments would yield better compression, simple Haar wavelets...
